Book ahead in London

8 places for Book ahead in London, picked by creators — with what they said.

• The Wolseley Piccadilly — 육식맨 YOOXICMAN, 큰손 노희영
Praised for black pudding and baked beans that are noticeably tastier here, pancakes that aren't overly sweet, and the whole experience — British businessmen reading newspapers amid upscale decor — deemed 'well worth it as a cultural experience.'
Heads up: Went with a reservation; by 8:30-9pm the place fills up with tourists, and the dress code is smart enough that T-shirts or sweatshirts feel out of place, with prices reflecting the ambience and experience as much as the food.
• The Devonshire — TOPJAW, 셰프 안성재 Chef Sung Anh
They pour what might be the best pint of Guinness in England, and the wood-and-ember-grilled meat dishes upstairs are said to be fantastic. Even just the toasties, steak sandwiches, and Scotch eggs at the downstairs bar are worth the trip.
Heads up: Getting a seat isn't easy, but it's worth fighting for.
• Bar Crispin — TOPJAW
Dishes arrive one at a time, letting you build your own tasting menu, and every dish is praised as interesting, including the mackerel with its sweet charred flavor. The natural wine list is also a strength.
Heads up: It's very small, with only 14 seats, so even a group of four had to eat outside. Advice for groups of four: order the whole menu and re-order whatever you liked best.
• The French House — Condé Nast Traveler
Everything — stocks, sauces, even the brioche — is made from scratch in a kitchen smaller and less equipped than this room; declared it London's best madeleine, with a chocolate mousse that's also light and excellent.
Heads up: Getting a table is famously difficult — 'everyone says they can't get a table, even I can't' — and it's a conversation-focused space that doesn't welcome photography.
• Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High — Harrison Webb
The chef personally serves and explains each course, and the lobster ravioli, John Dory, and duck dishes were all 'perfect' — even the honey-glazed bread and cheese course earned full marks.
Heads up: It's pricey, around £250 per person, and small dishes arrive while you're still waiting after being seated, so arriving early is recommended; on a cloudy day, the view can be completely obscured by clouds.
• Crisp Pizza — TOPJAW
The crispy dough, perfected through years of experimenting with flour and water, is a standout, with recommendations for the Picante — once a limited edition, now a permanent menu item — and the hot honey Vecna.
Heads up: Not a place you can just drop into spontaneously — you need to book around two weeks ahead, and it's located in a residential part of Hammersmith, off the main strip.
• Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese — 육식맨 YOOXICMAN
Praised for its stunning medieval-fantasy-like atmosphere and 'seriously delicious' stout, and enjoyed the genuine pub experience of people gathering and forming a real community.
Heads up: The upstairs is reservation-only seating with per-person food orders, and downstairs fills up quickly; the steak and kidney pudding had more mushroom than meat, so they suggested 'you might want to skip meat pudding dishes,' the fish and chips lacked seasoning, and the ale was bland.
• The Pig and Butcher — Doobydobap
A traditional Sunday roast with roasted meat, crispy potatoes, and a Yorkshire pudding that soaks up the gravy beautifully — the Scotch egg also 'scored well.'
Heads up: Sunday roast is only served on Sundays, and reservations were made for the visit as shown in the video.
